Whenever I have ever heard either of these men speak I have been inspired. Similar are their messages of hope and of equality and both make me want to be a better person.
I saw the preview for this movie on Apple Movie Trailers and immediately came up with this idea. I have to say I was a little sick to my stomach and nervous creating the swastika in Illustrator for the image. Even though I understand this symbol predates Nazi Germany by thousands of years I still felt like I was somehow giving credence to those deadly beliefs, crazy I know. After hiding the file in a folder, within a folder, within a folder, using brighter and more interesting colors, I tried my best to redirect the viewers attention to the figures in the foreground. And from what I can glean from the preview these figures are the focus of the film. The movie stars Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes and is based on a best selling novel, it looks depressing but good. Enjoy the picture for what its worth.
I'm not a kid anymore but I still love to "pretend" I am a martial arts expert, kicking ninja butt in the middle of a Japanese block print. So I drew it!!
I usually don't stretch for meanings but I've been really busy lately (see previous post) and everyone else does it. This was drawn while I was on an island, soooo...enjoy!
So I was recently hired by an educational publishing company to do some illustrations for their online assessment department so I haven't had much time to blog. Sorry I can't show you those images, they are tippity-top secret. But I also just recently had another cover published with the Monterey Weekly. The co-editor/art director and I tossed around some ideas out about an article detailing more Wal-Mart controversy in Soledad, CA and the result was this image. I like the guy a lot in fact he reminds me a little of my amazing, hairy-armed, mustach-ioed, dad. Since the only people that read this are my folks and maybe my brother, I thought I'd mention one of you and also show you what your boy, or in the case of my brother, "your boyieee!" is up to.
Yeah me! Using my blog and website as a tool I showed one of the editors at the local, free, weekly, newspaper, my work and they called me up to do some work for them, for money!!
It's back to school time and internet networking and wild partying are on the minds of the millennials eager to start college.
So The Monterey Weekly ( http://www.montereycountyweekly.com/) decided to do a couple stories. One about the "Do's and Don'ts" of social networking Internet sites like Facebook and Myspace and the other is about local hang out joints and the folks that frequent them.
Above are two Dont's. Taking the cliche flattering, cleavage and "emo"-make-up-infused-selfotograph for instance or incriminating images of yourself with underage girls. Below are three images of the folks you may find at our local joints.
"With adventure in his heart and the wind at his back Luke sailed over the fields in search of his next quest.” An excerpt from an imaginary book, I’m not writing. Till next Friday.
I know this is no excuse but I just moved and have been lazy about Illustration Friday. So here is my post for Sour. Although I think it might be a better ad campaign for Schwepps Bitter Lemon.
Stretching the subject a little I decided to draw an image depicting a "forgotten" Nuba tribe couple. Famous for their decorative face painting and ceremonies, here I have chosen to draw a tribesman getting one last glace at his young bride before heading off. Tell me what you think.
So I got a little bored with the movie illustration adaptations. So I decided to draw this little guy. After I was done all I could think about was wrestling and the operatic Merrie Melodies cartoon with Bugs and Elmer Fudd. Enjoy this strange warrior.
Here is another editorial illustration for an upcoming Christopher Zalla film, "Sangrede mi Sangre," which by the by won best film at Sundance under a different name. I'm using films because they often have the best reference photos and I'm trying to stick to a certain style.
So, I've decided to add an original image everyweek till I get a job and then I'll add the job images! Sound good...sounds good! This particular drawing is for the upcoming movie, "Wanted," let me know what you think. "Copywritten, so dont copy me," (Thanks Missy) -r
SO, my name is Raphael Isaacs and it is my absolute dream to become a paid artist/illustrator. I know I have the skill and the talent necessary I am just having a very hard time getting any paying gigs. This is my plea and my proof to the world that "art" is what I should be doing with my life.
